Bangkok · Assessment Appointment

I brought in a Longines pocket watch I found in my grandfather's belongings. I had no idea what it was worth or whether it was even running correctly. They put it on the timing machine straightaway and explained what they were seeing as they went. The written assessment was genuinely useful — specific, not vague. They told me the mainspring showed wear and suggested a refresh was worthwhile. They did not push me to book it immediately.

Nonthaburi · Caliber Refresh

My Seiko automatic had been sitting in a drawer for a couple of years after running erratically. I took it in for a caliber refresh and it came back three weeks later running within a few seconds per day. The timing data they included in the written report was a nice touch — I now know exactly where it sits across positions. The price was straightforward and exactly what was quoted.

Bangkok · Assessment Appointment

I was considering buying a vintage Omega at a market and wanted an opinion before committing. Booked an assessment for the next day. They spent a good twenty minutes with it and concluded it had been previously repaired with a non-original part but was otherwise sound. They suggested it was a fair buy at the asking price given that. Honest and useful. The appointment itself was unhurried.

Samut Prakan · Heritage Restoration

My family had a 1950s Movado that had been passed between three generations without ever being properly serviced. I chose the heritage restoration service because I wanted the work done properly, not just cleaned and oiled. The research folder they prepared was something I did not expect — actual catalogue references to confirm the dial layout and the correct winding crown profile. It took five weeks but the result was worth the time.

Bangkok · Caliber Refresh

My daily-wear automatic had been losing about two minutes a day for several months. The refresh brought it back to well within daily tolerance. They called me partway through to mention they had found a worn jewel and asked whether to replace it before proceeding — did not simply do it and add to the bill. That kind of communication is exactly what you want when you are leaving a watch you care about with someone.

Chiang Mai · Assessment Appointment

I was in Bangkok for work and brought two watches with me — one I suspected needed attention and one I was less sure about. They assessed both. For the first, they confirmed it needed a refresh. For the second, they told me it was running well and did not need anything done at this point. I appreciated that they did not find a reason to service both.

Case Studies

Three watches, three different stories

Case Study 01 — Assessment before purchase

Situation

A Bangkok collector was considering a pre-owned Patek Philippe pocket watch at a private sale. The asking price was substantial and the provenance documentation was limited. He wanted an independent opinion before committing.

Assessment

The watch was placed on the timing machine and examined under magnification. The movement showed signs of a previous non-specialist service — incorrect lubricant residue visible around the pallet fork. The case hallmarks were consistent with the stated period. Dial appeared original. Rate was acceptable but inconsistent across positions.

Outcome

Written assessment delivered the same day. The owner negotiated a lower purchase price based on the need for a proper service, bought the watch, and returned two months later for a caliber refresh. The piece is now keeping good time and the full service history now includes our documentation.

"The written assessment gave me something concrete to bring to the negotiation. It changed the outcome of the purchase."

Case Study 02 — Heritage restoration of a family piece

Situation

A piece passed from a Chinese-Thai merchant family through four generations arrived with no documentation beyond a handwritten note giving the approximate year it was purchased in Hong Kong — 1938. The movement was not running. The dial had been repainted at some point.

Research and work

Archive material for the maker confirmed the original dial layout. A period catalogue image showed the correct font and indices. The movement required a full strip and clean. We sourced a compatible mainspring of appropriate strength from a parts specialist. The painted dial was left as found — the family wished to preserve it.

Outcome

Six weeks from intake to return. The movement runs well within the expected range for its age. The research folder includes catalogue reproductions, the sourcing note for the mainspring, and a brief written history of the caliber family. The piece now has its first documented service record.

Case Study 03 — Assessment concluding no work needed

Situation

An owner brought in a mid-1990s Japanese automatic that had been worn daily. She had been told by a general repair shop that it needed a full service. She wanted a second opinion before spending the money.

Assessment

The movement was placed on the timing machine. Rate was within ±8 seconds per day across flat and crown-up positions — well within the manufacturer's stated tolerance for this caliber. Visual inspection showed no visible lubrication concerns. The watch had likely been serviced within the past three or four years.

Outcome

We recommended no service at this time. The written assessment documented the timing readings and suggested she return in two to three years or if rate performance declined noticeably. She paid the assessment fee and left with a useful document and a watch that did not need to be opened.

"They told me nothing needed doing. That was the most useful ฿2,700 I have spent on a watch."
